Port Macquarie Ultrasound
Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Do I need a full bladder?
Generally, yes. For pelvic ultrasounds and the early obstetric scans you do need a full bladder, just 3-4 glasses of water in the hour prior to your scan.

What is an internal or trans-vaginal scan?
The ultrasound is performed by the insertion of a vaginal probe. This is almost always carried out for pelvic scans unless this would be too uncomfortable for you. Internal scans are also very useful for early pregnancy scans.

Are your scans done in 3D?
Our high-end equipment does amazing 3/4D images, but only if your baby cooperates during this process.

Do you perform patient-initiated scans?
Under certain circumstances we do. Please call us to discuss.

Do I need a referral to have an ultrasound?
Yes.

Do you perform CVS or Amniocentesis?
Yes.
How will I get my results, and how long does it take?
You will receive a disk containing all your images on the day of the scan. Your GP will have the results within a couple of days.

Will I get to see Dr Hodgson during my scan?
This will happen in certain circumstances.
